SUNDERLAND (4-1-4-1):

7 Mannone: Made superb fingertip save to tip Dann’s header over the crossbar and couldn’t be blamed for either of Palace’s goals

6 Yedlin: Did reasonably well against Bolasie and helped set up Borini for his dramatic last-minute leveller

5 Kone: Seemed to struggle once O’Shea disappeared and should have closed down Wickham more effectively ahead of the striker’s first goal

6 O’Shea: Successfully kept Wickham under wraps, but was forced off before the half-hour mark after another injury setback

5 Van Aanholt: Made his usual powerful runs down the left-hand side, but struggled against Zaha on occasion

6 Kirchhoff: Continues to make a powerful impression at the base of midfield, but tired before he was replaced in the second half

6 N’Doye: Still doesn’t look particularly well suited to a position on the flank, but opened his Black Cats account via the aid of a deflection

6 M’Vila: Wasn’t able to produce one of his most effective performances, but prevented Cabaye getting too far forward

7 RODWELL: Added some welcome energy and drive to the heart of midfield and deserves to keep his place at the weekend

6 Khazri: Produced some eye-catching moments in the first half, but dropped out of the game markedly after the interval

5 Defoe: Was never able to wriggle free of Crystal Palace’s two centre-halves and consequently never really threatened

Subs:

5 Kaboul (for O’Shea, 28): Struggled to cope with Wickham’s physical threat and aggression in the centre-half

5 Cattermole (for Kirchhoff, 64): Provided some midfield bite, but only lasted 15 minutes or so before a facial injury forced him off

Borini (for Cattermole, 80)

(not used): Pickford (gk), Jones, Larsson, Toivonen.

CRYSTAL PALACE (4-2-3-1):

Hennessey 5; Ward 6, Dann 5, Delaney 6, Kelly 6; Jedinak 6, Cabaye 6 (Ledley 73); Zaha 6, Mutch 5, Bolasie 7 (Sako 77); WICKHAM 8 (Adebayor 84).

Subs (not used): McCarthy (gk), Mariappa, Lee, Gayle.

Man Of The Match: CONNOR WICKHAM – Might not have endeared himself to the Sunderland fans as he celebrated both of his goals on his return to the Stadium of Light, but dominated the second half with his aggression and slick finishing.
