LEWIN Nyatanga expects to be fit for tomorrow's Championship game with Norwich after returning to full training at the Academy of Light yesterday.

With Stanislav Varga ruled out after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in last Friday's 1-1 draw with Wolves, Roy Keane had looked like being down to the bare bones as the Black Cats attempt to extend their unbeaten run to five games.

But despite missing Tuesday's 2-1 win at QPR because of a calf strain, Nyatanga is expected to be available to face the Canaries.

"I missed the game as a precaution really," said the on-loan Derby full-back, who has made seven appearances since moving to the Stadium of Light in October.

"I had a sore calf and there was no point in risking it becoming worse. Had the QPR game been a day later, I probably would have played.

"I was disappointed to miss out because I'd had a run of six straight games.

"When you have a decent squad like ours, you know that if you miss a game you run the risk of not getting back in. But I'm confident in my ability and, hopefully, I will."

Marton Fulop is less likely to feature tomorrow but, despite Darren Ward's fine run of form, the Black Cats' new reserve goalkeeper is determined to force his way into the first-team picture.

Fulop, a full Hungary international, is expected to become a permanent addition to the Sunderland squad when the transfer window reopens in January.

While Ward is currently the club's undisputed No 1, the 23-year-old has not moved to Wearside simply to make up the numbers.

"Darren is a good, experienced goalkeeper," said Fulop. "He made a great save at the end against QPR and I saw his excellent performance against Wolves on TV.

"We both want to do well and, in training, we will both try to be better than each other.

"Whoever plays in the team has to do well, and the other guy will be there supporting him on matchday.

"But I've been in England for two-and-a-half years now and I've come here to play games and try to establish myself.

"Roy Keane has told me that no one is guaranteed a place in his team and that means we must all perform well and we will all get opportunities."

* The following cash turnstiles will be in operation for tomorrow's game against Norwich: 7, 8, 25, 26, 28, 29, 47, 48, 55, 56, 63, 64, 65 and 66.
