THE extension of the leisure centre in Crook was not many years old and now the council has spent a few thousand pounds demolishing it.
The council is going to spend £500,000 on refurbishment of the Elite Hall in Crook, a 100-year-old building, which will cost more to maintain (Echo, Jan 17).
I only hope that none of the councillors has been to Italy for their holidays or they will be wanting to make the beck outside the Elite into a canal.
The council has been asking Tom, Dick and Harry for suggestions of what to do with the civic centre.
Why not make it an indoor car park for all the people coming into Crook from all over the North-East to do their shopping?
Now the council is having to provide transport for schoolchildren in Crook to go for swimming lessons – this is because it has demolished the town swimming baths.
G Hall, Crook.
