RE. Eileen Stockton’s letter about Bishop Auckland Market Place and the filthy state of the town (HAS, June 9).

Unfortunately, she was spoton.

The town is disgusting. Every street is full of grass and weeds and the gutters are filled to the top with filth because they never get cleaned out.

As for the Market Place, this is the biggest waste of money ever.

Whoever thought of this idea does not live in the real world.

The whole country is bankrupt and this project has gone on for years. Will it ever end?

A Parkin, Bishop Auckland.

HAVING lived in Bishop Auckland all my life, I, along with many others including market traders, am fed up with the works being carried out in the Market Place. They seem to be never-ending.

In fact, the situation is now a lot worse than it was before Durham County Council started approximately 18 months ago.

Does the council realise that there have been two supermarkets, plus numerous roads, built in the same amount of time as this project has been running?

Perhaps whoever is in charge of this complete waste of money could give a completion date and a figure for how much it has all cost.

A Clarke, Bishop Auckland.
