AFTER the unwarranted diatribe against the Beatles and their music (HAS, June 1), I can only assume VJ Connor has a lot of spare time on his hands.

The Beatles’ back catalogue of more than 200 songs, in an almost eight-year career, includes nearly every music genre, including rock ‘n’ roll, pop, psychedelia, ballads, country and western, folk and soul, right through to heavy metal.

Can I suggest that if Mr Connor really is the music lover he claims, perhaps he could remove some of the cotton wool from his ears and investigate some of the lesserknown Beatles’ tracks.

I can assure him there’s something for everyone.

As for the charge of infantile behaviour, well, he’s obviously old enough to recall the drab, regimented austere years of Fifties’ Britain.

There’s no doubt that the Beatles’ unique world view and brand of irrelevant humour did much to banish the memory of that grey post-war period from the minds of the Sixties generation.

I Robson, Bishop Auckland.
