I HAVE just written as follows to Durham County Council: “I’m very much a supporter of DCC.

“However, I must strongly criticise the proposed policy of insisting taxi firms must now paint their taxis white.

“I’ve no particular view on the other aspects of taxi requirements the County is currently changing.

“But I absolutely cannot understand the County Council’s requirement that all taxis be painted white.

“Have you no idea what an expense it is to re-spray a car?

And how long off the road, therefore losing income, such a demand imposes on the taxi owner? And to what purpose?

“If I want a taxi in the street, I know it’s a taxi by the large sign on its roof. To add to the burden of a taxi business – and to waste resources by such a stupid requirement – really beggars belief.

“I’m not in the taxi business.

But I just find this policy so utterly stupid and pointless that I feel bound to complain about it.

Please tell me how you justify it.”

Perhaps I’ve misunderstood something that’s obvious to everyone else? I’d be interested in other readers’ views.
