THE saga over assistant referee Sian Massey has exposed hypocrisy in a few places you wouldn’t perhaps expect.
Football pundit Andy Gray is a dinosaur, but was Sky Sports taking a stand against sexism in sacking him? Er... No.
Of the two presenters on the Sky Sports News channel, one is male, one female. The male is occasionally middle-aged, overweight and losing his hair – rather like Andy Gray, actually.
The female presenter, however, is invariably young, beautiful, and usually blonde.
Maybe Sky Sports should start its fight against sexism at home – and have a look at ageism at the same time.
What about the tabloid press which, on Monday last week, had pictures of Sian Massey dancing at a party?
And finally the FA, which took her off two games last week to spare her “the media attention” (at Corby v Eastwood Town?).
So, because two blokes wrongly have a go at her, she first has her privacy invaded and then gets patronised by her employer. Why? She made a difficult offside call at Wolves and got it 100 per cent right. But she’s a woman. I hope she finds a good solicitor.
Maybe the FA ought to think about another “kick it out” campaign.
