IF there is one thing worse than the Government’s economic policies, it’s the groups of self-absorbed demonstrators opposing those policies.

What makes students and lecturers think anyone wants them, at least in their current excessive numbers? According to the person in charge of recruitment at PricewaterhouseCoopers, one of the UK’s leading firms of accountants, recruits with three years’ office experience are more use to him than recruits with a degree.

As to demonstrations by public sector unions, all they’re interested in is feathering their own nests. They kept remarkably quiet when private sector employment crashed by well over a million in one year during the worst of the credit crunch.

Of course, one of the reasons public sector unions kept quiet is obvious enough. Public sector unions support Labour, and it was the Labour leader at the time, Gordon Brown, whose lax bank regulation largely caused the credit crunch.
