THE news that thousands of Britons are planning to take holidays abroad at the time of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in April (Echo, Jan 25) will come as a surprise to many.

The Spanish island of Tenerife is one of the most popular, with inquiries year-on-year up by 154 per cent.

This wasn’t the case in 1947 when post-war Britain was buoyed by the spectacle of our present Queen’s marriage to Prince Philip. It is interesting to reflect on how things have changed.
