OVER the past year or so we have increasingly seen examples of certain newspapers hacking in to the mobile phones of numerous high-profile individuals.
We have also had the case of the football pundits caught engaging in pretty unprofessional behaviour.
The time comes when even the most powerful are called to account. Freedom of speech does not equate with abuse of power.
Sections of the media, and individuals within it, do push the boundaries at times. It is often not just what is said, but manner and attitude. Often, it is seen as entertainment, getting a thrill at someone’s expense.
When the tables turn the jokes become a reason for inquiry and the individuals held responsible start to squirm. Arrogance is exposed and for them the curtain comes down and an episode in a career draws to a close.
