PETER BARRON’S column published on January 24 included a reference to the behaviour of Manchester United’s star player, Wayne Rooney.

Apparently he swore at Mike Dean, the referee, because he had had the temerity to redcard a teammate. If Rooney did say the words attributed to him, Mike Dean should have had no hesitation in sending him off, too Language of that nature is clearly foul and abusive language. This sort of behaviour by a so-called professional sportsman should not be tolerated.

And if the referee does not take action, there should be scope for the Football Asociation to take action retrospectively. Football idols should not get away with it.
