I heard Katherine Jenkins singing on TV recently. Though she has a nice voice, she is now just another pop singer.
When she shot to fame she said she would turn to opera when she reached 30. But opera requires not only a good voice but long hours of rehearsal and dedication.
Sadly it seems as if Miss Jenkins has sold out to the easy money of a non-operatic repertoire.
Remember Richard Burton – a man gifted with a voice beyond compare – and his recital of “Under Milk Wood” by Dylan Thomas was unforgettable.
Sadly the screen call of Hollywood sounded the death knell for his classical Shakespearean career.
It is sad that another gifted Welsh singer should follow in his footsteps.
Hugh Pender, Darlington.
