AN eye test at a nationally-renowned optician in Darlington town centre showed a need for new specs and staff rightly approached me to purchase from their vast range.

For several years I have asked to be shown aviator-style frames which are very flattering to customers with rather “ample cheeks”. I am always informed that the style is no longer fashionable. I then visit several other opticians and get similar reports.

Do these people never read magazines or watch TV? Their optical knowledge would be crushed as they would see almost every showbiz and sporting celebrity wearing the above said unfashionable specs.

Fortunately, a new optical supplier, On Spec, arrives in Westmorland Street, Darlington.

Although the style I requested was not in store staff went out of their way to secure several similar types and then rang to invite me to view them. I bought the exact model I wanted.

Although they were Ray-Ban the company offered up to 76 per cent reduction on High Street prices and I was pleased at last to sport my ideal choice of specs for a fraction of the recommended price.

I suggest our national companies wake up to the competition. It’s nice to find a company so helpful in this day and age. I can’t thank On Spec enough.
