FRANK Wappat who was the great voice on BBC Radio Newcastle every Sunday night, has finally quit broadcasting due to ill-health (Echo, Aug 20).
Over the years Frank played wonderful records from famous artists such as Al Jolson, Bing Crosby, Tony Brent, Ronnie Hilton, Chick Henderson, Clinton Ford, Ruby Murray, Michael Holliday, Rosemary Clooney and Norrie Paramor. He also won two Sony Radio Academy Awards.
After a career of 45 years, broadcasting will never be the same again without Frank Wappat.
