I WAS saddened to read that Bishop Auckland Football Club was proposing that no football memorabilia would be on show at the new stadium clubhouse.

One of the highlights for visiting fans from all over the country who visited the old Kingsway ground was to view the memorabilia in the social club at the ground.

Many of the older fans from visiting teams would reminisce and loved to view the pictures of the late great players, such as Bobby Hardisty, and would point out various players in the old team pictures they had seen play.

This memorabilia has also apparently been removed from the old clubhouse.

Surely a place can be found for this memorabilia somewhere in the new stadium. I was looking forward to visiting the new ground with my grandchildren and proudly showing them the club’s magnificent past.

If not, it should at least be displayed somewhere in the town – at the library or local schools.

The club’s history should not be denied to the upcoming generation who will, after all, form its support in the future.
