DOES anyone else feel as I do that present politicians still do not understand that the reason people are apathetic about voting is because of the expenses scandal? They have lost the trust of most of the population, regardless of which party is supported.
Surely the best way for trust to be re-earned would be if party politics was suspended until the present economic crisis is over.
I would suggest a government of national unity in which the best person for any particular post was given that job, all politicians working for the good of the country.
If they could do this, and show that they had the best interests of the country as a whole at heart, then they might just be able to regain the trust and goodwill of the people who give them power and who they should be representing.
At some time in the future, when they have demonstrated this, then there could be a return to party politics. At the moment though, I don’t intend to hold my breath.
