CAN we all sleep a little easier knowing that Great Train Robber Ronnie Biggs is to remain in prison? Justice Secretary Jack Straw overruled a parole board recommendation to release Biggs as he had shown no remorse for his crime.
Almost 80 years old, Biggs is in poor health. We are told that he is not able to walk, talk and is being fed by tube following a series of strokes.
It has now been made public that there are almost 1,000 criminals wrongly at large.
Having been released early, these dangerous convicts have subsequently committed new crimes, thus breaking the terms of their early release. No doubt they all showed remorse before going on to re-offend.
In view of these latest findings it would seem that Biggs really has drawn the short “straw”.
