RE Christopher Wardell’s letter about wrestling memories (HAS, July 8).

For many years I have been a great fan of professional wrestling, which used to be on ITV’s World of Sport programme every Saturday afternoon when I was a boy.

Those who appeared on the small screen included Les Kellett, Johnny Kwango, George Kidd, Big Daddy and Johnny Saint.

My fondest memories were from way back in the Sixties when Jackie Pallo used to take on the man who we loved to hate, Mick McManus, in the needle contests for which 11 to 12 million viewers would tune in on FA Cup Final day.

At 4.50pm, we would switch over for the classified football results on the BBC with Len Martin.

British wrestling was the best sport on ITV and has left some great memories.
