THERE has been a great deal of debate about the Durham Park and Ride, which prompts me to write about the new park and ride at Filey Road, Scarborough.

The old one in Weaponess Road is closed, and a new one has been opened between Filey and Scarborough.

It is excellent, with enclosed waiting area, toilets, CCTV coverage and frequent new buses. But there is a notice at the entrance banning motor caravans from parking there.

Surely the council doesn’t want motor caravans clogging up the streets of Scarborough, and the parking facility during the day would be the ideal place for them.

We are not asking to park there overnight (in any case it closes at 8pm) and will be using the caravan sites in the locality and paying for the facilities which they provide.

At other park and ride sites there is usually a special area for motor caravans to encourage us to use the facility – York being a good example of this.

Surely tourism should be encouraged in the present climate – not discouraged.
