OVER the years there have been many occasions when the only time that Spennymoor was mentioned within the Press or media was when something bad happened, usually events often connected with drug raids or job losses.
However, due to the magnificent efforts of Spennymoor Boxing Academy, and the Chungdokwan Taekwondo martial arts club, which trains at Spennymoor Leisure Centre - and whose recent performance on ITV's Britain's Got Talent show so impressed judges - Spennymoor is getting positive media coverage.
If CT Riley's idea of organisations visiting schools to get pupils involved in more positive activities (HAS, May 3) could be implemented it would benefit the young, schools and the Spennymoor community.
If such a scheme was piloted, the resultant media coverage could be used to highlight similar projects, such as those previously mentioned, and the changes the council is making within the town - and in so doing create a positive image of Spennymoor to attract employers and much-needed jobs.
