I WRITE in response to John Robinson's letter, headed "Tickets Dilemma" (HAS, Apr 30).

Your correspondent unfortunately lost his train ticket prior to travel and was disappointed that a replacement could not be issued.

However, there is no question of us showing what he describes as "a dismissive attitude".

The National Rail conditions of carriage, which apply to tickets sold by all train companies and which are freely available at stations, make clear that "a ticket is your evidence of your right to make a rail journey and it is your responsibility to keep it safe. If you lose or mislay a ticket it will not be replaced nor will any of the cost be refunded".

I trust this makes the position clear.
