RE the £1.9m overspend on the Eastern Transport Corridor road project in Darlington (Echo, Apr 24).
What an admission for the borough council's chief executive, Ada Burns, to make when she said: "There were no surprises in the report. In many ways, this has told us what we knew."
Like Victor Meldrew, I do not believe it.
As for no disciplinary action being taken against officers How such people get and hold such positions and are not made accountable beggars belief.
It is to be hoped the new assistant director - highways does a better job. If not, perhaps we should have an Alan Sugar to say: "You're fired."
Oh well, the old saying springs to mind: "Anybody can spend somebody else's money."
