AS a disabled serviceman of 78 I read about war veteran Glenn Freakley whose benefits were stopped when he refused to give bank statements to Richmondshire District Council because he said it had no right to know his spending habits (Echo, Mar 15).
I think it is correct the council should check on how much a person has for benefits purposes, but it should not be allowed to ask how he spends his money.
It is a free country, but it won't be if officials start delving into how you spend your money.
