RE Peter Barron's reference to his ball being burst at St Peter's RC Primary School in South Bank, near Middlesbrough, in his From The Editor's Chair column (Echo, Jan 14). I am 76 years old, plus VAT, so was a South Banker before him. Still am.
I also played on the slag tips over the Puddlings and the Gas House common and beck.
I still enjoy the Echo and Hear All Sides. This is only my third letter to a newspaper in my life, so could you please lead the way and be the first newspaper to stop referring to footballers as heroes. Heroes they are not.
We all know what many of them are today, but would be arrested if it was printed.
Heroes' names are on cenotaphs, not on footballers' shirts. Let's see the Echo lead the way on this.
