I ENJOYED Mike Amos's article about former footballer Ivor Broadis on the occasion of his 85th birthday (Backtrack, Dec 14).
I remember him from the 1950s and, as an inside forward, he was sometimes seen as an international rival to Wilf Mannion.
It was during a BBC Radio Sports Report programme one day that I heard football expert Charles Buchan recommend Broadis for England selection.
Fast-forward now to the 1980s when a young work colleague asked me for help with a newspaper football quiz.
He could not identify the photograph of a certain player, but I had no difficulty at all in pointing out it was Ivor Broadis.
