AT the end of the year I wondered if the following might arouse further thoughts? I remember when: 1. Love meant more than just sex.
2. There was no such thing as a halftruth.
3. Please and thank you were part of our language.
4. When men said "After you, ma'am" and politeness was accepted as normal.
5. When sales were yearly affairs and a price was genuine, not making one ask the question: For how long have we been robbed, for no business will sell at a loss?
6. When one could claim: "I'm English and proud to be."
All the above tells you that I am a very old lady with an excellent memory.
