BORIS JOHNSON’S four-step roadmap out of lockdown (Echo, Feb 23) should concentrate on the more important aspects of lifting restrictions and it should temporarily abandon some of those wild and woolly unachievable ones.

Education is the number one priority. Maths, English, science – children need these hugely important subjects to carry them through life.

Next should be the reopening of all shops. There are many non-essential shops which are in fact very essential not only to the public, but also to maintain jobs.

Goals that need abandoning include the mass return of spectators at sporting events.

Didn’t the Government learn from last year’s fiasco when 250,000 fans crammed into Cheltenham racecourse at the height of a worldwide pandemic.

Or the Champion’s League match, Liverpool v Athletico Madrid, which added another 50,000 to the crowd-busting tally (including 3,000 Madrid fans from virus hit Spain).

Yes, nearly a year has passed since these sporting events took place and various vaccines have been produced.

But to promise tens of thousands of fans will be back in stadiums by June 22 isn’t just the stuff dreams are made of – it’s absolute fantasy!

Finally, I read recently that Wembley stadium could be packed to the rafters with 90,000 fans when England play their final group match of the European championship against the Czech Republic.

If that isn’t asking for trouble in a Covid-hit Britain, I don’t know what is.
