DERBYSHIRE police seemed a bit heavy handed when dealing with the two ladies who met for exercise five miles from home.

Apart from the distance from home, which the law is very ambiguous about, they seem to have been adhering to Covid regulations.

The police should concentrate their efforts on those who blatantly have no regard for the regulations. If they patrolled close to any fast food drive-thru they will see lots of “hot hatches” full of young people, obviously from different households but not wearing masks.

These are the types who think the laws don’t apply to them and should be dealt with effectively so the rest of us have a chance of getting back so some sort of normality sometime in the not too distant future.

Similarly, why not patrol city centres, where groups can be challenged?
