IN reply to the discussion about Lewis Hamilton (HAS, Nov 20 & 23), I would like to add my tenpenneth. As John Armstrong says, there is no doubt that Lewis is a driver of great ability but current drivers are very much “one trick ponies” compared to their predecessors.

Graham Hill won not only the F1 championship but also the Indianapolis 500 and the Le Mans 24 hour races.

Now current drivers are not allowed to stray outside of the hallowed halls of F1, such is the constraint of their contract and the congestion of the season.

Fernando Alonso had to leave F1 to drive Le Mans and Indianapolis.

F1 is in a rut. It is not exciting. Lewis is not exciting, however good a driver he is.

There are too many fixtures all fuelled by greed from the TV moguls and now they want to put a series of races on in a country with one of the worst human rights records in the world and who will be watching at that track.

Shame on them!

Robin Rutherford, Darlington.
