AS I look out of our lounge window at an 40ft pole erected 12 yards away by Open Reach the only consolation is that I have discovered BT has a Pole Objection Team.

This is job creation of the most laughable kind. BT know very well that erecting a pole on our village green in Eppleby without any prior consultation will bring objections. They know because they put up two poles four years ago then had to take them down.

When I objected to the Open Reach team contracted to do the recent work one of them said: “This happens all the time. We’ll be back in a few days to take it down.”

He added: “I wouldn’t like it if it was outside my house.”

This is a blatant waste of manpower and money, which can only result in increased bills.

The Pole Objection Team, based in Liverpool, will be receiving a flurry of letters and BT will be taken to task by our parish council, which had not been consulted about this latest outrageous intrusion.
