ONCE you have overcome the hurdle of accessing the NHS app and booking an appointment for the flu jab, the system seems to be working well with patients being seen at the time given and without even having to leave their cars at The Northern Echo Arena in Darlington.

But, however efficient the system, there should be room for common sense and compassion. An elderly friend of 89 made the bus journey from Branksome, arrived early and had to walk around town for 40 minutes, only to be told when he went to the St Cuthbert’s church hall venue that he had come on the wrong day and would have to make another appointment through his surgery.

I realise it would have upset the schedule but surely he could have been given the jab and his surgery notified?
