I HAVE just witnessed the most crass example of dangerous driving that I have ever seen in town, excessive speed combined with hazardous manoeuvring.

The truly worrying factor about the episode was that the vehicle concerned was a police patrol car with all its toys in operation, sirens, and flashing lights, the usual justification for this potentially lethal driving is that officers are en route to a serious “incident”, but the frequency with which patrol cars are driven through busy urban areas at excessive and dangerous speeds suggests that “incidents” occur umpteen times every day.

I simply cannot believe that all police involvement in events can possibly excuse the style of driving adopted by some police drivers, thus a degree of critical introspection on the part of senior officers over this serious problem, is beyond being overdue.

If a complaint is made directly to police, the reaction from them can be bland indifference, and it is the complainant who slopes off, feeling he is the guilty party.
