OBVIOUSLY in Remain-voting constituencies like the City of Durham, the day we leave the EU should be a day of mourning.
Church bells should indeed be rung, but with a funereal, muffled peal and those citizens who were conned by deceitful politicians into voting Leave should be invited to services of repentance. Black armbands should be worn, and street lights should be dimmed as the fateful hour approaches.
It is undoubtedly one of the greatest foreign policy blunders of my lifetime, right up there with the 1956 Suez Crisis.
