I SEE Darlington FC supporters ran an online poll and asked the club to lower the EU flag and raise the Union Jack or St George's Cross (Echo, Nov 5).

It is good to see support like this, and I hope people realise the dangers of further erosion of British powers if the EU is allowed to push through its constitution - now called treaty - which is designed to allow both sides to claim it favours them.

The need for similar-minded people to make their feelings known was emphasised at a debate to explain the benefits of the union to the public.

Any suggestion the new treaty was so similar to the old constitution it obliges the PM to hold the referendum they are already committed to was dismissed.

Widely-published quotes proving this were said to be fabrications by the media, and domination by a federal state to be desired sooner or later.

The determination of Europhiles to push this, regardless of all the drawbacks, means it is urgent for the man on the street's views to be made known to their MP, preferably with the clear intention that no vote will be cast for them at future elections if they do not campaign for a referendum.
