THE damning inspection report on Cleveland Police proves what I’ve been advocating since 2012.

On its own, getting rid of Barry Coppinger will make little difference. What is needed is something far more radical – the Cleveland Constabulary area should be partitioned, with that part north of the Tees going in with Durham and the south joining North Yorkshire.

Teesside could then benefit, not only from effective leadership and the economies of scale, but from a whole culture change.

When it comes to Cleveland Police, we don’t need reform, we need revolution.
