DOES Councillor Phil Stoddart have some personal animosity towards our Durham City MP Roberta Blackman Woods that he can send such an unjust rant to your paper (HAS, June 13).

I have always thought of her as a very good MP who tries to reflect the cares and concerns of her constituents.

Several years ago I attended a meeting which she called in order to address the worries of the people who found the idea of a new bus station being built on the roundabout at the top of North Road to be a bad proposition. I remember it as a very civilised gathering with people given in turn the chance to put their points of view.

Towards the end of the meeting, a voice from the back of the hall shouted: "You ought to be ashamed of yourself, Roberta". The cause for shame appeared to be that Roberta did not like the design of the proposed bus station.

She took all this in her stride and the only person on whom it reflected badly was the person shouting the unnecessary comment. That shouter was Cllr Stoddart.
