WHEN will North-East MPs realise that we always have been, and always will be, the whipping boy of the country, as shown by the article headlined “Region will lose millions in post-Brexit plan” (Echo, June 13).
We in the North-East have always been worker ants surviving on the meagre crumbs that fall from the table at the capital’s greedily-scoffed banquets. We do, however, get more than our fair share of immigrants dumped on our doorsteps, Teesside being the largest recipient. That doesn’t happen in Knightsbridge or Chelsea.
Forgotten are the days when our pits, shipyards, steelworks and engineering companies made this country, and are our men who served in the great wars. This will not change until our services are required to fasten the loosening corsets of the capital.
John Cumberland, Rushyford
