I SEE that Darlington council has given permission to destroy yet another wildlife haven and to build on the area between the Barton Street/Haughton Road roundabout.

As we all know these trees, hedges etc absorb carbon dioxide gases from vehicles, and they provide shelter and food for wildlife.

So what's next, a green tax to drive into Darlington to reduce the carbon gases in town? The authorities could help by stopping the 20 odd buses in the town centre that sit for five or more minutes with their big diesel engines running.

I hope the newly elected councillors will put a stop to the over-building on green field plots.
