REGARDING

Rana’s story by Chris Lloyd

(Echo, May 10) and Robin Rutherford’s letter (HAS, May 13).

I was also moved to read Rana’s story despite having spent many a day with her as a friend talking through the atrocities of war that we both had suffered from.

I often wondered why we had been allowed to live to such an age and reading Chris’s article made me realise that it was to continue to remind people that we should look forward not back and try to avoid such pointless conflicts that lead to the separation of families and the deaths of so many.

Rana and I are survivors of war, both of us from countries that are not necessarily the most popular in the modern right wing of politics, but we had one overarching view that the world is here to accommodate us all.
