YET another Victory in Europe Day anniversary passes with hardly a mention in the news media.

On May 8, 1945 the surrender of Nazi Germany was even more momentous than the Armistice of 1918.

It is understandable that there are no brash parades or flag waving events but surely the defeat of Nazi Germany, the greatest threat to liberty in Europe, and possibly to the world, is worthy of some form of official remembrance.

First World War remembrance with its somewhat lachrymose and gloomy style is considered enough to remember for both conflicts, which is a slight to the millions who fought, served and died in defeating Nazism in the Second World War.
