FLY-TIPPING is a massive countrywide issue and is caused largely by our money-grabbing, incompetent Government (Echo, Apr 10).
Fury as more than 62,000 North-East reports of fly-tipping recorded in one year
Landfill tax is around £90 per ton, which goes straight to the Government and which is why the cost to the public of a normal builder’s skip is around £350 and growing.
The days when you saw your neighbours with a skip that cost maybe £80 at the weekend, throwing away their old tat or garden waste, have gone.
People are finding it hard to put food on the table never mind paying to tidy the place up.
Operators of landfill sites are no more than unpaid tax collectors making maybe £10 per ton. They could soon be taxed out of existence.
