YOU have no idea how frustrating it is for the people of Barnard Castle to read about Durham 19 (Echo, March 21).

Launched to showcase “the county’s rich culture”. This includes the “lift off” of the brutalist Apollo Pavilion.

This eyesore, after having £400,000 spent on it in 2009 is to have more spent lighting it up. Meanwhile Durham County Council continues to refuse to contribute one penny to the repair of our 950-year-old castle walls.

To add insult to injury HGVs are still allowed to slowly destroy our 250-year-old Buttermarket.

I have just sat down to write after watching four articulated lorries trying to negotiate it at the same time. Chaos! I ask Durham County Council. What about our heritage and culture?

It is being destroyed. Don’t we count as part of Durham?
