I WOULD like to applaud Councillors Mark Wilkes and David Freeman for their disgust at Durham County Council for erecting the two advertising boards at the cost of £16,500 (Echo, Feb 19).

As the planning permission has not been granted yet for a new headquarters at The Sands, are DCC not jumping the gun a bit or do they already surmise it will be a formality?

They are going to trim the new headquarters down.

I wonder if anyone looked into the option of moving it to Mount Oswald as they were going to invest £17.5m – plenty of land and bus and parking facilities and the eased congestion and pollution in Durham city. Or would that be too easy an option?
