I REFER to the letter by John Rusby of Bishop Auckland (HAS, Jan 18) regarding the rubbish in the area of Bishop Auckland railway station.

Well, where has the rubbish come from? It’s not too hard to ascertain that it will be from the lazy, irresponsible local residents.

As we know we are a nation of litter louts who would rather dump in lay-bys and country lanes than take our rubbish to a council tip.

This case in Bishop as mentioned, over the fence, at night, onto someone else’s property for them to clear is typical which is happening countrywide.

In my mind the locals are their own worst enemies having no pride in the area where they live. Why do they not use the wheelie bins that are supplied by the council to put in their household rubbish, not on railway property?

If Network Rail were to clear, who’s to say it won’t happen over and over again and the guilty ones will continue to dump?
