R TOMLINSON (HAS, Jan 7) writes as a leaver of handing the country over to a foreign power if we remain within the EU.

Within the EU we have the benefit of food supplies, animal welfare and environmental matters all to our standards, governed by laws emanating from the EU parliament, of which we have many MEPs.

Donald Trump and others has repeatedly stated that such EU standards are much too high, much higher than US standards and when he concludes trade deals with the UK, outside of the EU, they will all be to US standards.

He is also demanding that much or all of the NHS be opened up to US health conglomerates.

The prime reason for the collapse of the US car industry was the vast health premiums which the industry had agreed to pay for their staff, which sent it into near bankruptcy.

Do we really want to see our world-renowned NHS be decimated by such organisations with no other aims than profit and executive bonuses whilst causing mayhem to the NHS?

Is this not handing power to a foreign power of which he complains?
