I AM writing with regard to the article about the Christmas Parrot and the book by Tom Carr (Echo, Dec 10).

It was my husband who installed the parrot on the Trinity Church Tower and is the Ken Porter mentioned in the book – now a happily retired electrician formerly of Richmond.

He was part of the team that went to Blackpool to acquire the lights for the town.

In the early days they were, and still are, installed in the Friary Garden, however this one year Ken decided to have a change and decided to put the parrot on the tower.

The book is a lovely read and I bought several copies to give to family and friends in 2003. I hope the book will be as popular now as it was when it was initially released.
