FURTHER to the report headlined “Politicians in row over cash for former SSI site” (Echo, Nov 2) following the announcement of £14m in the Budget for a part of the redundant SSI steelmaking site in Redcar.

The silver lining following that political spat was that both the Redcar MP and the Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen had agreed to meet.

However it appears the local Labour politicians have decided to unite and have another go at the Tory mayor.

Most business people will put these spats down to party politics, however the party political honeymoon is well over, more so as we come closer to local elections next year on Teesside.

Anyone who has worked across the redundant SSI steel plants on south Teesside will know that many millions are required to clean up all of those sites.

The £14m can be a springboard for the rest of the sites. Any good jobs created there will be a welcome relief, especially for more than 2,000 who lost their jobs in 2015.

Ditch the party politics, for the good of the Teesside area.
