BILLY NEILSON praises the Auckland Tower (HAS, Oct 3) and states that if it were a novel “it would be guaranteed the Booker Prize”.

Having read all the Booker Prize winners since its inception about 50 years ago, I don’t think this is quite the compliment that Mr Neilson believes it to be.

Recent winners of the Booker have been tasteless, ill-conceived, unpleasant and sadly lacking in any appeal, rather like the tower and both will be regarded as such for decades to come.
