FOLLOWING on from John Raw’s letter regarding cancer detection (HAS, Sept 12), I would recommend that ladies who are invited for a mammogram attend the appointment.

It only takes a couple of minutes and it is uncomfortable – but it could save your life.

The letter comes when you’re about 50 years old and then every three years. I am proof that this works as I had a mastectomy 17 years ago and I’m still alive and kicking, so please, ladies, do go.

Men are known to get breast cancer so please, chaps, keep an eye on your chest area and any changes you notice go to your GP. Another test for ladies is a smear test which is another life saver.

Please everybody watch for changes in your body and anything unusual go get it checked.
