IT is interesting to see Durham County Council’s latest proposal “aimed at reducing congestion and improving air quality in the city” (Echo, Sept 7).
Meanwhile they are busy producing the opposite effect in Barnard Castle.
Major road works, at the busiest time of the year. For seven weeks. Not only that, the narrow road created will continue to have the same effect. Neither I nor anyone I know in the town can see the point. There will be no improvement to traffic flow or safety. It is indeed “a solution in search of a problem”.
Together with allowing the castle walls to fall down and refusing to stop HGVs destroying the Butter Market it almost seems that Barney is being targeted.
